We had better luckl than the SEAL team that went in after Noriega...they took a pounding due to bad intel.

Very, I was in on Operation Just Cause back in the eighties..(showin my age a bit there) Pulled thirty two civilians out of Nicaragua who were considered in harms way. Only had two minor casalties, both drop related rather than enemy fire. And we extracted all the packages without the Nicaraguan army bein any the wiser.

Yes, that is part of it. Sometimes we can't insert near the package (the downed pilot) and have to drop in then approach on the ground. PJ's are the air force's Special Operations guys, right in there with the other SOG teams, SEALs, Marine Recon, Green Berets. But we are focused more on saving lives than taking them.

More like a moderated form of near suicide if your fighting wind as well. I broke three ribs once on a training drop, got blown into the face of a cliff at about sxty knots.

We usually bailed out of choppers on fast rope, not too bad when you don't have to do it in tres, or on the side of a fricken mountain.
