Battery Information

Postby Artist Boy » Wed Nov 28, 2012 8:37 pm

Charging the Battery:

The battery that comes in the kit comes with around an 80% charge on it, and can be used right out of the box. These batteries do not have a memory, so using them them without charging them fully first is ok, but we still recommend you charging them fully first, so you get to know how long the battery will last you.

Plug the wall scoket end of the Xtar WP2 II charger cable into a power socket.

Plug charger in.png

The green light on the wall end of the plug will light up to let you know there is power . Check on the charger and make sure the select-able switch is placed on the right setting.
  • USB power (position: 0)
  • 0.5 ampere charge current (position: 1)
  • 1 ampere charge current (position: 2)
We recommend setting “2” for the AW 18650 IMR Batteries. The “1” setting is for smaller sized batteries such as 18350, 16340, 14500 and others, please be sure to check what rate your other batteries need to be charged at before using them in this charger. Setting “0” is to feed power from a battery in the charger to the USB to charge other devices that charge via USB.

Then Plug the other end into the plug slot on the charger, the lights on the charger should then light up green to show you that the charger is now powered up.

Place the AW 18650 IMR Battery

with the nipple/button end of the battery facing the top of the charger into the Xtar WP2 II charger (top of charger is where the LED's are Bottom is where the sliding bars).

battery in.png

The LED for the battery bay that the battery is placed in will switch from green to red to show you it is now charging.
The batteries generally come with about a 50% charge on them. You can use them right out of the box but we highly recommend charging them before you first use them so you get the full effect of the unit the first time around. The battery will take an hour to a few hours to charge the first time, once drained they can take around 6 hours to charge fully to 4.2v

When the battery is fully charged the LED for the bay that the battery is in will change from red to green showing it is fully charged. Your battery is now fully charged and ready to be placed in your Lavatube.

Placing the battery into your Lavatube:

Take your Lavatube v2 place one hand around the top of the device near the LCD screen and the other hand near the bottom around the Lavatube logo. Twist the two (2) halves in opposite directions to unscrew the two (2) halves. The will separate in the middle of the device, below the large power button and above the dimpled grips.

Open.png

Place the bottom (flat end) of the battery into the battery bay of the Lavatube v2 first so the bottom sits on the heat spring.

Press the bottom of the top (control unit) of the Lavatube v2 onto the top of the battery (compressing the spring in the bottom a little) so the threads of the 2 pieces touch and screw the device back together.

close.png

**The LCD Screen will blink 3 times to tell you the battery is in right and ready. **

Once the battery is in place and the device is screwed back together. The device defaults to the off position. You will need to press the Fire Button 5 times to turn the device on. After a battery change the device will also default back to 3.0v.

The Buttons and Setting the Voltage

Postby Artist Boy » Wed Nov 28, 2012 8:42 pm

Setting the Voltage:

On the front of the Lavatube under the LCD Screen you will find 3 buttons, 2 small silver ones and 1 large one. The large silver one being the Fire Button used to activate the atomizer as well as turn on/off the device by pressing 5 times. The other 2 (smaller silver ones) the one on the right is the “+” button for increasing the voltage and the left “-” is for decreasing the voltage. Pressing the “+” button will increase the voltage by 0.1v's for each press. You can turn it up to 6.0v once you reach 6.0v if you press the “+” button again it will roll back over to 3.0v.

buttons.png

*If you have not tried higher voltage vaping before we recommend you start at 3.7v and slowly increase/ decrease your voltage till you find the voltage you like for the atomizer and juice you are using.

The "+" and "-" buttons also do double duty. If you hold the "-" button down for 5 seconds it will activate the voltage checker. It will show on the LCD screen the current battery charge (voltage) of the battery in the device.

volt.png

The "+" button, if held for 5 seconds will display on LCD screen the ohms of the atomizer on the device. (If you get an odd reading please see the Troubleshooting section below)

ohms.png

The Fire Button:

To turn on/off the Lavatube v2, press Fire button 5 times, the LCD screen should light up And display either ON or OFF. When you turn off the device you may hear it fire the atomizer for a second. This is normal while while it is turning off.

on.png

off.png

When the device is turned on, and the Fire Button is pressed it will fire the atomizer. The Lavatube v2 has a 15 second cut off time, meaning if you hold the button for more then 15 seconds it will cut the power to the atomizer. This will help prevent the user from burning out the atomizer.

When the battery has reached 3.3v and the Fire Button is pressed, the screen will light up, display the word "Lo" and shut off the power to the atomizer. This is the way the Lavatube tells you that the battery has reached a point where it is drained and should be charged. The Lavatube v2 is regulated by a pulse width modulation regulator (PWM). This means there is not a constant flow of power but very fast short bursts of power. This helps keep the voltage output the same as the set voltage no matter what the batteries charge is. Unlike before with the Lavatube 1.0 when the battery got below ~3.6v charge the out put would drop below the set voltage.

Using your Lavatube v2

Postby Artist Boy » Wed Nov 28, 2012 8:48 pm

Using your Lavatube v2:

Once your Atomizer is primed and ready for use. Screw the atomizer onto the to of the Lavatube.
Check and make sure your Lavatube is turned on and set to your desired Voltage.

Press and hold the Fire Button down and take a draw off the drip tip. Long, slow draws are the best way to get the best vapor. Short hard draws will not create the best vapor. The device has a 15 second cut off, meaning that if you hold the button longer than 15 seconds, it will shut off the device to help prevent burning out your atomizer by over heating it.

Find your favorite voltage for the juice you are using. When dripping you will get 5-7 draws per 3 drops of juice in the atomizer. The number of draws depends on the voltage selected and the length of draw you take. When you notice the flavor and vapor production start to drop off re-drip 3 more drops of juice.

When you are done vaping it is best to turn off the unit to prevent the unit firing in your pocket/ bag/case.

Troubleshooting

Postby Artist Boy » Wed Nov 28, 2012 8:52 pm

Troubleshootin

Wont fire atomizer:
  • Check and make sure the device is turned on.
  • Check and make sure the battery charged.
  • Check and make sure the center plates on the atomizer on Lavatube v2 threaded connections are touching. For info on how to adjust the plates please check this thread

Getting an odd Ohm reading:
  • If it is reading 9.9ohms, then the atomizer is not making contact with the battery in the threaded connection. Check and make sure the threads and plates are clean and free of any e-liquid. If that does not fix it, please check this thread
  • It could also be that the center plate on the atomizer is shoring out on the threads. And you will need to re-center the plate so it is not touching the walls of the threaded connection.
  • If reading 0.0ohms the atomizer is dead and needs to be replaced.

LCD screen is reading "Lo":
  • Battery charge is low and needs to be charged.

Spring in the battery bay has collapsed:
  • There was a hard short somewhere in the unit. The spring collapsed to kill the electric circuit and prevent damage to the device, battery and/or user. If this happens please contact CS right away and do not attempt to use the battery or the device again.
